Day 40: Might as well get comfortable here

I'll be spending a lot of time in this chair over the next several months/years. I've been putting off going to the dentist since we moved out here. I have about a million cavities and need at least a hundred root canals...not to mention those pesky wisdom teeth. I can't be a good example, but I can be a horrible warning. If you've been putting off your dental check up, book your appointment ASAP!

Day 39: Return of The Marche!!

You may or may not recall my post last month about the closing of the "Marche". In fact, the Marche closed a long time ago and was taken over by "Richtree". Everything remained the same as far as the customer (i.e. me) was concerned so I continued to call it "Marche". Anyhow, I was very happy to see this in the window this morning. Call it what you want, just bring on the Ceasar salad, pasta, pizza, and cheesecake!

Day 38: Somewhere over the rainbow

Cool rainbow that appeared on our kitchen floor through a glass of water on the counter today. I am easily amused.

Day 37: Harbour Sixty

We were *thisclose* to going to Harbour Sixty tonight, but somehow ended up at Terroni's. S'okay. It was very good.

Day 36: Vacuuming is dangerous work

Day 35: Future Half Marathoners

Tonight was the first night of our half marathon running clinic!! Here are my running partners. They kick all kinds of ass!!

Day 34: The Daily Table of Junk at Union Station

Commuters will buy anything! Every day, there's a table set up at Union Station where vendors sell their junky books, clothes, jewelry, kids' toys....and people flock to it! This crap would never sell if it were in a store. Anything to delay the start of the work day and fulfill the need for consumerism, I guess.

Day 33: Pedicure joint in February

Day 32: Staff Room

This is for my sister's benefit. Her break room is kick ass...pool table, Ikea kitchen, space age chairs, some kind of supersonic coffee/hot chocolate machine. It was the kind of place you could hang out for fun on a weeekend. Here's mine. And this is the new and improved one! Not even a window. We just got new furniture because the old stuff was flea infested...at least that's what I heard. It was definitely over 30 years old.

Day 31: I told her so

Here's a picture of my first running partner. She laughed her ass off at me because of my big watch (Garmin). I told her she would soon be a believer. She said no. It took 8 months, but please take note of what she's sporting on her left wrist.

Day 30: Ballerina

Sorry to be too kidcentric, but that's the way the last couple of days have been. E started ballet and she LOVES it...so much that she burst into tears at the end of the lesson.

Day 29: 4 years ago, my life changed forever

My daughter turned 4 today. She insisted we go to a Mexican restaurant...some little hole in the wall in the 'hood. No McDonald's for this girl. She's so international!

Day 28: Guns and Effing Roses!!!!

Tonight was the Guns N Roses concert at the ACC. Of course, I went with my partner in crime. Here she is with "Slash". Hah!

And here's the man of the hour...better late than never. He showed up around 1130. He's looking pretty middle aged, but I assure you, his voice is as whiny and awesome as ever. Axl Rose!!

Day 27: My New Scarf

I've got nothing today. This is my old/new scarf. I found it in a box I forgot to unpack when we moved here over 2 years ago. I love it!

Day 26: Runaway

My not even 4 year old decided she was running away from home today. Wow! I was at least 5 before I attempted running away. Kids are growing up so fast these days! Being the stellar mother that I am, I knew I had to capture this milestone on film. Sorry it's blurry, but she was on the move!

Day 25: Trying not to cry over spilled milk

Damn, this is the kind of thing that pisses me off. Jake left a glass of chocolate milk teetering on the edge of a shelf in the fridge. As soon as I opened the door, it spilled everywhere.

Day 24: Disney Show

It has become a tradition that we take the BFFs to a show together around the time of their birthdays. Today we went to see Disney Playhouse Live at the Skydome. E's BFF's little brother tagged along too. Fun!!

Day 23: Italian Night!

We went on a most amazing Mediterranean cruise last fall with 2 other couples. We've decided to to try to relive that experience with some culinary delights and wine from each country we visited. Pam and Adam hosted Italian night and everything was delicious!! I think I volunteered for Greek night, but honestly, I had so much Italian wine, I can't even remember for sure.

Day 22: Face of Bravery

This is my friend and co-worker modelling her Saudi Arabian head scarf (hijab?). We went out for her farewell party tonight. She's on her way to the middle east for a year! This is is her second gig over there, so she's totally down with it. We sent her off with a steak dinner and a proper night of drinking and debauchery in a gay bar on Church Street. Much fun!!

Day 21: Goodbye old school phone

This is my cell phone. People comment on it all the time....What museum did you get that out of? Is that your home phone? It's old. I can't even remember when I got it. 2002 maybe?
I finally got a new ph0ne today. I sent my first text message today. So cool!! I may never have to talk to anyone ever again!! Text me!! Hah.

Day 20: Entry for the ugliest powder room in the world

I have not been good about remembering my camera lately. All I can come up with for today is a picture of my hideous powder room. Do you love the wallpaper, red counter and green floors? Me neither. Fortunately, it's slated for renovation in the next month or so.

Day 19: I love poodles

I met my dream dog on my way to work tonight. She even lives in my dream loft on King Street.

Day 18: Sad

I run past this memorial plaque a few times a week. Six years ago, a 36 year old woman and her 19 year old niece were killed as they drove under an overpass when a train derailed. I remember hearing about this on the news before we moved here, but had no concept of where it was. I now think of them and their family every time I pass by. It gives me the chills when I see a double decker train going over the bridge. The 6th anniversary of the accident recently passed and I noticed someone placed a bouquet by the plaque. So sad.

Day 17: Mysterious nuts

I couldn't help but notice these peanuts outside our second floor window sill. I remember seeing an apple there last year at this time and wondering how it got there. Squirrels, I guess?

Day 16: Second City

There is nothing I love more than a surprise night out!! Dinner+Second City afterward=perfect night out. Sadly, Zong at Marche told me Marche is closing next Sunday. Say it isn't so!!

Day 15: Our library kicks all kinds of ass

I'm always looking for positive points of living in the suburbs....they are few and far between, but our library is one of them. It's so much nicer and has better services than our local library in Toronto. During "story time", the kids sit around the fireplace while the librarian reads and sings with them. Parents can leave the area and scour their chosen section in peace and quiet or sit and read in a comfy chair. Heaven!! They also have "preschool" computers set up where kids can play Dora (etc) computer games. Sweet. Of course before we leave, E can take whatever books she wants off the shelves home for a couple of weeks. I was even able to find a couple of books and a movie for myself. Yay for having the second highest taxes in the region!!

Day 14: C'est qui?

E and I went to Quizno's for lunch after gymnastics. This was the picture on the kids' meal bag. It looks surprisingly like E's dad when he was a kid...it's seriously eerie. I remember seeing a picture that looked just like him on a World Vision ad a few years ago (he thought so too). I wonder if his mom has been selling his childhood pictures.

Day 13: How we were again...

My husband and I had the day off together while the kid was in school. Sweet!! Aside from a first thing in the morning appointment, we had no plans for the day. We ended up going for lunch and taking in an afternoon movie. This is the most spontaneous thing we've done in years. No planning ahead, no asking a babysitter, etc, etc. It was awesome. I can barely remember what it was like to take these things for granted. Naturally, we chose a restaurant that our daughter would hate (Thai). It also made my cheapskate husband happy. For 6.95$, we got soup (not pictured), an entree, and spring rolls. So good!!

Day 12: Met a Star Today

I met Cam Woolley on my way home from work today. I only noticed him because of the giant CP24 truck parked on the street. I tried to sneak a picture for the sake of this blog, but didn't do very well. CW is the bigger guy standing in the doorway. He noticed the flash and turned around right away. I was then forced to chat him up in an even more socially awkward manner than is my usual way. In hindsight, I could have easily asked to take a better picture, but I was too embarrassed.

Day 11: Running Whore

The other day, I was running on the sidewalk, when some fuckwit driver I've never seen in my life, rolled down his window, stared right at me and yelled, "Whore!!!". This is exactly how I was dressed. A lot of unflattering terms come to mind when I look at this picture, but whore is not one of them. Jackass.

Day 10: Grammar Police

I could dedicate an entire blog to signs I see containing incorrect grammar and spelling. Here's an example I saw on my run this morning. By the way, judging from the snow piled under the sign, I think it already snowed (or should I say snow'd?)

Day 9: It's like Italy all over again

Every few years, my sister convinces me to to go Frankie Tomatto's...an Italian all you can eat buffet in Markham. Whatever you do, do not get the chicken parmigiana. The pizza and vegetarian pasta are safe bets though.

Day 8: Our Million Dollar Family

One boy and one girl. My 2 angels from heaven. Love them.

My daughter is obsessed with Old Navy's Supermodelquins. Can you spot her?

Day 6: Green Monster

This was my attempt to get back on the healthy eating bandwagon after several weeks (months?) of pigging out on junk food. The Green Monster makes a perfect breakfast. Here's the recipe:
1/2 frozen banana
2 c spinach
1 cup chocolate soy milk (use any kind of milk...cow's milk, chocolate, plain...if you dare. I need the chocolate)
Blend the hell out of it.
You could add some protein powder too. As gross as it looks, it's surprisingly good. And, I hate spinach! Unfortunately, I followed this up with a bag of dill pickle chips and a bottle of Fuzion later in the day. I try.

Day 5: World's Highest Wine Cellar

No matter what side of the world's tallest stucture controversy you took, with the official opening of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the debate is over. The CN tower is no longer the tallest free standing structure in the world. However, as far as I know, it still contains the highest wine cellar in the world!! I took a picture of it on my way home from work on Tuesday morning.

Day 4: Back to the grind

The holidays are over. It's back to work and school for the whole family (except for those lazy cats). I have a long commute, but it's not so bad when you work night shifts. I get the whole train to myself!

Day 3: First degree burn

Burn I suffered today due to Jake's ill-placed kettle and incessant habit of boiling water. This burn rendered me incapicitated for the day. Thus, all plans for packing up our Christmas decorations were aborted. Our Christmas tree still stands! I'm not sure how I'll be able to work tomorrow night. Hah!

Day 2: Sound of Music

I took my mom to a live production of the Sound of Music today (okay...yesterday...I will be chronically one day late) as her Christmas present. I wanted to take a picture outside of the theatre, but it was damn cold! So, this pic will have to do. I didn't think it would be my thing, but I thought the show was amazing. And best of all, my mom LOVED it too!! We went to Little Anthony's for dinner. Yum!!
